What loam is for
New lawns and lawn repair, filling in low spots, grading around a new foundation or patio, and topping thin soil before seeding. For vegetable and flower beds, our planting mix (loam blended with compost) gives plants a richer start.
How much to order
For a new lawn, spread 4 to 6 inches. Four inches over 1,000 square feet takes about 12 yards; six inches takes about 19. The mulch calculator works for loam too.
Frequently asked questions
Is loam the same as topsoil?
Yes — loam is the topsoil used for lawns and grading, ready to spread and seed.
Can I seed right on top of new loam?
Yes — rake it smooth, roll it lightly, seed, and keep it moist until the grass is up.
How many yards fit in one delivery?
Up to 6 yards per truck, with a 2 yard minimum.
Should I use loam or planting mix in raised beds?
Planting mix — it has compost blended in, which raised beds need.
